Modern society becomes more and more open today. Nowadays nobody would be surprised if a ten-year-old kid already knows the word “sex” and knows what it actually means. To decide if it is bad or good is up to his parents. This evidences that the topic of sex is not a secret for anybody any more. So, the main point of my essay is to give definition to such terms as “statistically normal behavior” and a “sexually healthy adult”, and explain their meaning.

Human sexuality is closely related to the expression of sexual feelings and sexual intercourse between people. It is also associated with personal identity with the help of sex, which is very much influenced by it. Human sexuality consists of several aspects, such as physiological, psychological, spiritual, cultural and social, which differ in different cultures, religions and human societies.

In order to be exact in my expressions I’d like to underline that “normal behavior” is not the same as “statistically normal behavior”. For many representatives of the human race normal human sexuality is a sex act between two people, a male and a female, who are married. Though a lot of people adhere to this opinion, a lot of human beings especially the younger ones consider sex before marriage to be a rather normal thing, thinking that having no sex before marriage is old-fashioned. Nowadays there’s such an opinion that it’s very important to have sex before marriage in order to get to know a partner better, thus avoiding sexual problems in future family life. The most common and widespread human sexual behavior is heterosexuality. This word originated from the word “hetero”, which means “different”. Heterosexuality means having sex acts with a person of the opposite sex. It is an inborn human tendency, which serves for reproduction of human species. Speaking about statistically abnormal behavior, it includes such phenomena as homosexuals, transsexuals, bisexuals, exhibitionists, nymphomaniacs, sadomasochists and etc.

Now I’d like to move on to the next point of my essay and speak about a sexually healthy adult. From my point of view, words “healthy” and “normal” have common meanings. Only a healthy person is considered to be normal, otherwise he is sick, hence not normal. Having spoken about normal sexual behavior, we found out that it means having sex acts with a person of opposite sex (regardless of their marriage). So, a sexually healthy adult is a heterosexual representative of the human race who enjoys and expresses his/her own sexuality throughout the life, develops strong and meaningful relationships with the person of opposite sex, expresses his/her own sexuality together with respecting sexual choices and rights of others, has pleasurable, honest, protected and consensual sexual relationships while promoting healthy sexual behavior. A sexually healthy adult has regular sex acts ending in orgasm, doesn’t experience any health problems concerning sex (e.g. impotence) and avoids having sexual relationships with people infected with HIV or AIDS.

To make a conclusion I’d like to say that “normal” and “abnormal” are loose concepts, and everybody very personally treats such things. That’s why, like any rule has its exceptions, the sense of “normal” also can have some exceptions.
